Dhoodhi tomato dal

Dal or varan is very common accompaniment with rice or chapati in every household. Children loves to it eat dal rice or chapati dal. You can make it spicy or bland with or without vegetables. When I newly started cooking for my husband I made dhoodhi dal and he really enjoyed it. From then on I make   that dal regularly. I am sharing the recipe of doodhi tomato dal.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1 cup diced dhoodhi
  • 1 1/2 cup tomato
  • Curry leaves
  • Mustard seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Jeera
  • Curry leaves
  • Hing
  • Turmeric
  • Oil 
  • Red chilli powder
  • 1/4 spoon dhaniya jeera powder
  • Salt 
  • 1/2 spoon sugar
  • 1 spoon ghee 
Process->To the washed toor dal add dhoodhi, hing, pinch of turmeric and water and cook in the pressure cooker giving it 3-4 whistles. Beat the dal and dhoodhi once cooked slightly. Pour oil in a pan hot pan. Once the oil is hot add curry leaves, hing, mustard seeds, jeera and let it splutter. Now add the garlic and fry it .Be careful not to burn it. Then add tomatoes, red chilli powder and dhaniya jeera powder. Cook the tomatoes till they become pulpy. Pour the dal in the tadka. Add some boiling water to the dal and adjust salt, sugar as per taste and boil it. Garnish with corriander leaves and drizzle 1 spoon of ghee on the dal .Serve with rice or chapati.
