Moong Dal Khichdi

Moong dal khichdi is a simple dish which adults and children both can enjoy eating. Moong dal is easy to digest than toor dal as we have always heard from our elders. This moong dal khichdi recipe will definately activate your taste buds as the masala is whats gives it a different taste.  Serve with papad and raita or simply drizzle ghee and pickle on the side.


  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/2 cup moong dal
  • 1/4 cup wet coconut
  • 1/3 cup cilantro
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1/2 spoon jeera
  • 3 spoons ghee
  • Hing
  • Curry leaves
  • Turmeric 
  • Salt 

Process->Wash the moong dal and rice and soak it for 15 minutes. Grind the coconut, green chilies, cilantro (coriander leaves), jeera to a smooth paste. To a heated pan add ghee in that add curry leaves, hing, turmeric and the masala paste. Fry the masala till it is well cooked. Add the moong dal and rice and saute for 3-4 minutes. Finally add 3 cups water and salt. Cook the khichdi on slow flame till the grain is cooked soft. 

Note->While the khichdi is cooking add 1 spoon of unsalted butter.
